Failed Revenge

Without a thought she threw away his love
      and down he fell from the warmth above.
Rage in his heart like a spreading fire-
      getting rid of the hurt was his one desire.
Away he ran to find a quick lover
      to soothe his pain in a tumble under cover.
A passing joy and then he shivered-
      to him no happiness was ever delivered.
Sad eyes and a deep ache remain
      and it's clear he'll never be the same.


Walking Away

I guide a lost businessman along the sidewalk
toward the building he was searching for.
He takes my kindness for granted and continues
flirting with someone on his phone.
His closely cropped hair defines each
finely chiseled feature and I find myself
attracted to him for some reason.
Maybe it's his good looks dressed in suit and tie
or the fact that his eyes refuse to focus on me
as his deep velvet voice tickles my ears.
Desire stirs inside and I want to grab for his attention.
His sparkling blue eyes look into the distance
as he speaks softly to an electronic lover.
Sighing, I quickly crumple up my passing fantasy.
The man nods his thanks to me and
I watch him walk away clinging to his cell phone.

I turn and walk slowly back the way we came
as cars pass by heading for unknown destinations.
A guy drives past and honks at my body:
yelling out his appreciation through the open window.
His shout pulls me from my thoughts
reminds me that I have breasts and a butt
and that this is all I am to him.
I ignore his voice and walk away.
