Unloved Reality

I spend my days
Working with abused children,
Many from broken homes.
And it breaks my heart to hear;
Their terrible stories
Of agony and fear.

Many raised in homes
Never hearing a kind word.
Never one of love or praise,
Taught not to love,
Only to hate.


Being told by their parents,
All to often to their face:
"You never should have been born,
You were just a mistake."


Imagine being one of these children,
With histories so sorted;
Of being beaten daily
And sexually exploited.


Growing up,
Always abused.
Knowing deep down inside;
You were never really loved,
Only used.
